Unit preferences let you specify default settings for creating equipment and space records. For more information, see Creating and Editing an Equipment Description and Creating and Editing a Space Description.
To specify work unit preferences, select Administration —> Preferences —> Units from the menu. MainBoss displays a window containing the following:
- Building: The default building for containing new equipment and spaces.
- Identification: This section specifies preferences for the Identification section of an equipment or space record.
- Location: Specifies the default location for new equipment and spaces.
- Make: Specifies the default make for new equipment.
- Model: Specifies the default model for new equipment.
- Serial No.: Specifies the default serial number for new equipment.
- Unit Category: Specifies a default equipment type or space type. For more about these types, see Equipment Types and Space Types.
- System: Specifies the default system for new equipment and spaces. For more about systems, see Systems.
- Drawing No: Specifies a default drawing number for new equipment and spaces.
- Contact: A contact person for any work done on this unit. Dropping the arrow on this field displays your current Contacts table. If the contact person you want to specify is not currently in your Contacts table, click New Contact to add that person to the table. For more information on contacts, see Contacts.
- New Contact: Adds a new entry to your Contacts table. MainBoss opens a window where you can record information about the new contact person.
- Comments: Specifies default comments for new equipment and spaces.
- Service: This section specifies preferences for the Service section of an equipment or space record.
- Warr. Exp.: Specifies a default warranty expiry date for new equipment and spaces.
- Serv. Co.: Specifies a default service contractor for new equipment and spaces.
- Requestor: Specifies a default requestor for new equipment and spaces.
- Phone: The requestor's phone number.
- Access: Specifies a default access code for new equipment and spaces. For more on access codes, see Access.
- Cost Ctr.: Specifies a default cost center to be used when creating new equipment or space records. For more on cost centers, see Cost Centers.
- Value: This section specifies preferences for the Value section of an equipment record. (Space records do not have a Value section.)
- Purch Date: Specifies a default purchase date for new equipment.
- Original Cost: Specifies a default original cost for new equipment.
- Vendor: Specifies a default vendor for new equipment.
- Future Value: Specifies defaults for the "Future Value" area in a new equipment record.
- Date Estimated: Specifies a default date for making estimates on future value.
- Replacement Cost: Specifies a default replacement cost for new equipment.
- Typical Life: Specifies a default lifespan for new equipment.
- Scrap Date: Specifies a default scrap date for new equipment.
- Scrap Value: Specifies a default scrap value for new equipment.
- Ownership: Specifies a default ownership for new equipment. For more on ownerships, see Ownership.
- Asset Acct: Specifies a default asset account for new equipment. For more on asset accounts, see Asset Accounts.
- Save: Saves the settings currently shown in the window.
- Cancel: Closes the window. MainBoss discards any changes that have not already been saved.
