A system is a set of separate pieces of equipment that make up a single entity. For example, a production line usual consists of many pieces of equipment, but for some maintenance purposes, it is viewed as a single system. In particular, if there is a breakdown in one piece of equipment on the production line, the whole line may have to stop. Other examples could include your organization's electrical system, heating system, water system, and so on—anywhere that separate pieces of equipment are interrelated and that problems with one piece of equipment can affect the use of many others.

Systems are used when entering information about pieces of equipment. For further information on recording equipment information, see Creating and Editing an Equipment Description.

The Systems table lists the systems of interest to your organization. This table is a simple table; for more information, see Simple Tables. You access the Systems browser with Units —> Tables —> Systems. Entries in the Systems table consist of:

For example, a code might be ASM and the description might be ASSEMBLY LINE.
