Meters

Pieces of equipment may have meters measuring such things as hours of use, power consumption, mileage, and so on. MainBoss lets you schedule preventive maintenance work by meter readings (for example, every 500 hours of use); therefore, it is useful to set up a regular schedule for recording meter readings in MainBoss's database.

The first step in recording meter readings is to tell MainBoss about the meters themselves. This means specifying where each meter is located (on which piece of equipment in which building), what the meter measures, what its initial reading is, and so on. You can tell MainBoss about a particular meter while you are creating an equipment record for the equipment that contains the meter, or you can describe the meter later on.

When you describe a particular meter, MainBoss saves this information in the Meters table. As with most tables, each entry contains an identification code and a short description, plus other information about the meter. To make the table more useful, it's a good idea to give each meter a unique name (identification code) so that the meter is easier to find in the table. However, this is not mandatory—you can have more than one meter with the same name.
