If you want MainBoss to schedule preventive maintenance based on meter readings, it is important to type in those meter readings on a regular basis. When a particular meter passes the point where maintenance is required, MainBoss will generate an appropriate work order for the preventive maintenance work (provided that you follow the steps described in Generating Preventive Maintenance Work Orders).
There are two ways to enter a new meter reading:
- In the Meters browser, click the entry for the meter, then click the browser's New Reading button. For more about the Meters browser, see Browsing the Meters Table.
- Click the New Reading button in the window describing the meter. For more information on this window, see Defining Equipment Meters.
In both cases, MainBoss opens a window that contains the following:
- Information about the meter: The top part of the window contains information on the meter itself, including the location of the equipment that contains the meter and the most recent reading on this meter.
- Actual Reading: The actual reading you read from the meter.
- on: The date/time when the meter reading was taken. If you leave this blank, MainBoss will fill in the current date/time (i.e. the point at which you click Save to save the meter reading).
- Meter Offset: This serves the same purpose as the "Meter Offset" field that appears when setting up the meter: to compensate for meter roll-overs and other situations that create discrepancies between the value shown on the meter and the actual amount of equipment usage. For further information on using this field, see the description of "Meter Offset" in Defining Equipment Meters.
- Effective Reading: This is automatically calculated as the sum of "Actual Reading" and "Meter Offset". If you type a different value into this field, MainBoss automatically changes "Actual Reading" in response.
- W/O Number: If this meter reading is associated with a work order, you can specify the work order number (if the appropriate number is not already displayed).
- Future Reading: An estimate of the next meter reading based on past readings. MainBoss creates this estimate based on the average time between meter readings and the average change in value during that time. In order to create such an estimate, MainBoss needs at least two readings; therefore, the "Future Reading" value is blank until you have recorded two readings.
- Save & New: Saves the current record and clears fields in the window so you can enter a new record.
- Clone: Copies most of the information from the current meter reading record and creates a new record containing that information.
- Delete: Deletes the meter reading.
- Save: Saves the current record, but leaves all data as is. You can then continue to edit the same record.
- Cancel: Closes the window. MainBoss discards any information that has not previously been saved with Save.
