Inventory Items

The materials used in your maintenance work are divided into two classes:

Inventory items are materials that you keep in your standard inventory and that you want to keep track of using MainBoss.
Non-inventory items are materials that you do not normally store on your premises (such as spare parts that are rarely needed).

MainBoss actually keeps identical information on both inventory and non-inventory items. The only difference is:

MainBoss lets you set maximum and minimum levels for inventory items; when the amount in stock drops below the specified minimum, MainBoss can tell you it's time to re-order.
MainBoss does not let you set maximum and minimum levels for non-inventory items (or more precisely, the maximum and minimum are always set to zero).

Non-inventory items can be ordered and received just like inventory ones. However, unless non-inventory items are reserved on work orders, they will not normally appear on the MainBoss Re-Order Report.

Non-inventory items can be changed into inventory items; you would do this if you decide to keep such items on hand after all. Similarly, inventory items can be changed to non-inventory items simply by setting their maximum and minimum levels to zero.
