Restoring and Using an Archive Set |
< Previous section | Table of Contents | Index | Next section >
Restoring data from an archive places all the records from the archive into temporary working files on your hard disk. Restoring is also called dearchiving.
Once you have restored archived data into working files, you may use MainBoss to work with the contents of these temporary files, in the same way you work with your everyday MainBoss databases.
Important: Restored data is not placed back into your everyday MainBoss database. It is only put into temporary files so you can examine old records. |
You can restore more than one set of archived records. In this case, the records of all the archives you want to restore are placed in temporary files. The only limit on the amount of material you can restore is the amount of disk space you have available.
To restore an archive set, select Administration —> Archiving —> Restore from the menu. This brings up the Archive Set browser, as described in Browsing Archive Sets. Use the browser to find the archive set you want to restore, then click the browser's Restore button. MainBoss will proceed to restore the archive set.
Using the restored data: Once the restore operation has finished, you will return to the Archive Set browser. You will see that the browser now has a Select button in place of the Restore button. (Select appears whenever the currently selected archive set has already been restored.)
If you click Select, MainBoss will switch to examining the restored data rather than your normal MainBoss database. For example, when you browse work orders, you will see the old work orders from the archive set rather than your current work orders. You will also see old purchase orders rather than your current ones.
You can switch back and forth between restored archive data and your current data. To go back to your standard MainBoss database, select Session —> Select Main Database from the menu. MainBoss switches back to showing your standard database. To return to the restored archive data, select Session —> Select Archive from the menu; MainBoss will display the Archive Set browser so that you can select a restored archive to use. Find the desired archive set in the browser, then click Select. You will return to examining restored data from that archive set.
