The Work Request browser lists existing work requests. The browser can list any of the following:
- Open work requests: Work requests that have not yet been used to create a work order.
- Transferred work requests: Work requests whose information has been used to create a work order.
- Voided work requests: Work requests that have been cancelled without turning them into work orders.
For the information contained in a work request, see Creating and Editing a New Work Request. For general information on browsers, see Browsers and Editors.
To open the Work Request browser, select Requests —> Browse Requests. This opens a window that contains the following:
- Show only: Options in this area determine what type of work requests are listed.
- Waiting: If this is selected, the browser only lists work requests which have not yet been turned into work orders.
- Transferred: If this is selected, the browser only lists work requests that have been turned into work orders.
- Voided: If this is selected, the browser only lists work requests that have been voided (cancelled).
- W/R Number: Shows the number of each work request listed.
- Requestor: A list of people who submitted work requests.
Note: The list of requestors is sorted in alphabetical order, not in the same order as the work request numbers. This makes it easier to find a request by a particular person when you don't know the request number. However, sorting in this way means that the "W/R Number" and "Requestor" lists are in different orders (one numeric, one alphabetical). Therefore, a particular work request number and its associated requestor name will not usually line up beside each other on the screen. |
- Edit: Lets you edit the work request that is currently selected in the list.
- New: Creates a new work request.
- Clone: Creates a new work request, copying most of the information for the new request from the (old) request that is currently selected in the list.
- Void: Cancels an existing work request. This option is only available when you are looking at open work requests. Once a work request has been transferred into a work order, you can't void the work request (although you may be able to cancel the associated work order).
- Reopen: Reopens a voided work request. This option is only available when you are looking at voided work requests.
- Print: Prints one or more work requests. For more information, see Printing Work Requests.
- Search: Searches for a particular work request in the table.
- Create W/O: Creates a new work order by transferring information from the selected work request. For more information, see Work Orders. This button is only available when you are looking at open work requests.
- Edit W/O: Edits the work order associated with a particular transferred work request. For example, if the person who submitted a work request phones in more information and the work request has already been turned into a work order, you can look up the original request in the list of transferred requests, then use Edit W/O to add the new information to the corresponding work order.
- Done: Closes the browser.
