Entering Specifications into a Template |
< Previous section | Table of Contents | Index | Next section >
Templates let you record information that is specific to a particular kind of equipment (for example, the maximum RPM of a motor or the amperage of an exhaust fan) or space (for example, information about plumbing fixtures in a washroom). For more on templates, see Templates.
Once you have created one or more templates, you can attach those templates to equipment or space records. You can then fill in the blanks with values that describe the unit's specifications.
Note: A template is like a blank form waiting to be filled out. When you fill out the form with information about a particular unit, the result is a specification for that unit. |
To attach a specification to a unit, open the equipment record, go to the Specifications section, and click New Specification. MainBoss opens the Templates browser (described in Browsing Templates). Select the template you want to use, then click Ok. MainBoss will then open a window that contains the following:
For example, suppose a particular piece of equipment uses two separate motors. You might create a MOTOR template with blanks that can be filled in with general details about motors. Then you create two specifications that both use the same MOTOR template, one for each motor. To make it easy for you to tell which motor is which, you can give each specification a different name (for example, UPPERMOTOR and LOWERMOTOR).
In cases where there is no likelihood of confusion, you can let the specification keep the same name as the template. MainBoss allows an equipment record to have multiple specifications with the same name.
For a description of how to find a particular equipment record, see Browsing the Equipment Table. For a description of how to edit an equipment record after you have found it, see Creating and Editing an Equipment Description.
For a description of how to find a particular space record, see Browsing the Space Table. For a description of how to edit a space record after you have found it, see Creating and Editing a Space Description.
