Browsing Authorized Users

MainBoss lets you create a table of people who are authorized to use MainBoss in your organization. Each such user has a user name (names by which users identify themselves to MainBoss) and a password to establish identity.

To see your current list of authorized users, select Administration —> Security —> Users from the menu. MainBoss opens the Users browser. This is a window that contains the following:

• User Name: A list of the people who have been registered to use MainBoss.
• Edit: Lets you change the information in an existing user record. Click the record you want to change (in any of the lists), then click the Edit button. MainBoss opens an editor window to let you change the information. For more about this window, see Authorizing New Users.
• New: Lets you create a new record. Click the New button, and MainBoss will open an editor window to let you enter information for the new entry. For more about this window, see Authorizing New Users.
• Clone: Creates a new record starting with information taken from an old one. To clone an existing record, click the entry you want to clone and then click Clone. MainBoss opens an editor window with most of the information fields filled in with information from the old record. You can then edit this information and fill in any blank fields to describe the new user.
• Delete: Deletes a user from the list. Click the record you want to delete, then click Delete. MainBoss asks if you really want to delete the record; if you say yes, the record is deleted.
• Print: Opens a window that lets you print one or more records from the list. This print window lets you specify which records you want to print; it also lets you preview the output on your screen before actually creating a paper print-out.
• Search: Searches for a particular user in the table.
• Turn Security On: Turns on MainBoss's security measures. From this point onward, anyone who starts the MainBoss program will be asked to log in by typing a user name and associated password. For more information, see Logging In. (Turn Security On only appears if security is currently turned off.)
• Turn Security Off: Turns off MainBoss's security measures. From this point onward, anyone who starts the MainBoss program will be able to use the program immediately, without logging in. Users will also be able to use any MainBoss functionality except for the Administration menu. (Turn Security Off only appears if security is currently turned on.)
• Disable Default Admin: This button only appears if you have forgotten your password and have contacted MainBoss support to correct the problem. It may also appear if you have just installed MainBoss for the first time and with the sample databases. In all these cases, there will be a special "emergency" administrator in the list of users, created to make it possible to perform administration operations even if you have forgotten your previous administration password. Clicking Disable Default Admin gets rid of this "emergency" administrator (once you have set up a password that your real administrator can remember).

  Once you click Disable Default Admin, it should disappear permanently (unless you have to create an emergency administrator again).

• Done: Closes the window.
