This applies to those strainers used to remove the larger particles of debris in
water that may be drawn from rivers, reflecting pools, etc. This water is used
as condenser water in refrigeration systems. These strainers are installed just
ahead of the backwash strainers (PM STRAINERBACKW-A). The periodic cleaning of
these strainers that is required every two hours is to be done as a watch
activity.
Special Instructions:
1. De-energize, tag, and lock out electrical circuit.
2. Review manufacturer's instructions.
3. This task normally requires two employees.
Items to Check & Initial Completion:
1. ___ Close off main water inlet.
2. ___ Close off condenser valves.
3. ___ Open all drains and start drain pump if necessary.
4. ___ Clean both strainer lid covers and remove baskets.
5. ___ Clean inner housing, baskets, and screens.
6. ___ Replace lid hatch seals.
7. ___ Check sliding door seals and replace if necessary.
8. ___ Check for pitting and corrosion and paint with rust inhibitor wherever
necessary.
9. ___ Check strainer baskets; repair or replace as necessary.
10.___ Remove and replace gland packing.
11.___ Remove and replace lubricant in gear box with manufacturer's recommended
type.
12.___ Lubricate motor.
13.___ Check starter, relays, contactor, points, and wire connections.
14.___ Run drive mechanism and check for proper operation.
15.___ Install baskets, close lids, open valves, and check for leaks.
16.___ Replace hoist ropes if necessary and inspect pulleys.
17.___ Clean outside casing and touch up pitted or corroded areas with rust
inhibitor.
18.___ Clean up work site.

2. Lubricants. Consult the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous
ingredients and proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
3. Cleaning equipment and material. Consult the MSDS for hazardous ingredients
and proper PPE.

5. Rust inhibitor. Consult the MSDS for hazardous ingredients and proper PPE.
