FPFPMP-W Fire Protection Fire Pumps (Motor or Engine Driven) - Weekly

Special Instructions:

The work required by this procedure may cause the activation of an alarm and/or a
supervisory signal.  The field office manager and the control center or fire
department that will receive the alarm and/or signal must be notified prior to
start of work.  On systems which do not have a manual start button, close
starting circuit mechanically.


Items to Check & Initial Completion:

1. ___ Check for proper oil and coolant levels, fuel supply, and battery
       electrolyte.
2. ___ With all valves in normal position, start drive motor or engine.
3. ___ Observe oil pressure or ammeter for normal operating range.
4. ___ Run engine until coolant reaches normal operating temperature.
5. ___ If connected to timer cycle, run motor until automatic shutoff.
6. ___ Examine pump packing for excessive water leakage (small leakage is
       necessary).
7. ___ Feel pump and motor bearings for excessive heat.
8. ___ Check for proper supervisory signals.  When applicable, supervised
       temperature and oil pressure circuits should be mechanically closed and
       checked for proper signals.
9. ___ Test batteries for full charge.
10.___ Clean up and remove all debris from work area.

1.  Standard Tool Kit
    Plus  Insulated pliers and screwdrivers
          Wire strippers
          Wire crimpers
          Voltmeter - Ohmmeter - Milliammeter
          Clamp on meter(volt - ohm - amp meter)
          Soldering kit
          1/8" 25' fish tape
          Burnishing tool
2.  Battery tester.
