Special Instructions:
The work required by this procedure may cause the activation of an alarm and/or a
supervisory signal. The office manager and control center or fire
department that will receive the alarm and/or signal must be notified prior to
start of work. This work should be done when other scheduled maintenance is
being performed that involves water flow through valve. (See Inspections
FPACHKVV-A, FPDRYPPDLGE-M, & FPFPSTINDW-A). Review manufacturer's instructions.
Items to Check & Initial Completion:
1. ___ Remove any obstructions to easy accessibility.
2. ___ Where applicable, remove debris and water from pit.
3. ___ Inspect for valve being set plumb so that post indicator is
vertical.
4. ___ Replace damaged or missing cap, window glass, target plate,
operating wrench, post, bonnet, and valve tamper switch.
5. ___ Remove cap, check for corrosion or damage to extension rod,
coupling, threads, and signs of leaking valve.
6. ___ Lubricate threads.
7. ___ Remove and clean window glass.
8. ___ Clean both target plates. Illegible target plates should be
replaced or painted.
9. ___ Completely close valve and check for easy operation and
leaks from stuffing box.
10.___ Adjust target plate (shut) so it is centered in window frame.
11.___ Open valve until torque of rod is noticed (tendency for wrench to spring
back) then back off valve about 1/4 turn.
12.___ Check position of target (open). Adjust if necessary.
13.___ Replace cap, tamper seal, and wrench.
14.___ Clean up and remove all debris from work area.

Tubing cutters
Flaring tool
Small acetylene outfit
Packing tool kit and packing
3/4" socket set
Crescent wrenches to 14"
