You create or modify sublocations using the sublocation editor. The usual way to open the editor is to click New Sub Location or Edit in the View section of Coding Definitions | Locations.
The sublocation editor contains the following:
Details section: Shows basic information for the record.
Code: A brief code to identify this record. No two records may have the same code.
Description: A longer description of the sublocation.
Map Coordinates: The geographic position of this sub location. Coordinates are specified in longitude and latitude.
As a special feature, MainBoss makes it easy for you to use Google Maps to specify "Map Coordinates". First, use Google Maps to find the location's geographic position. Then, right-click on the location in the Google Maps display and click Center map here in the resulting menu. Next, click the button in the left-hand panel with the link icon on it (a section of chain). Finally, copy the given URL (beginning with http:) and paste it into the "Map Coordinates" field in MainBoss. MainBoss will extract the longitude and latitude from the Google Maps URL.
Contained Within: The location that contains this sublocation. This may be a postal address or another sublocation.
Comments: Any comments you want to associate with the sublocation.
Contacts section: Shows any contacts at this sublocation. You can also create contacts using this section, but you can only do so once you Save the sublocation record. For more on contacts, see Contacts.
Units section: Shows units at this location. For more, see Units.
Storerooms section: Shows storerooms at this location. For more, see Storerooms.
Temporary Storage and Items section: Shows temporary storage and temporary storage assignments at this location. For more, see Temporary Storage Locations and Temporary Storage Assignments.
Save: Saves the current record. The editor window stays open in case you want to make more changes to the same record.
Save & New: Saves the current record and sets up the window for you to enter a new record. Fields in the new record will be blank or set to default values.
Save & Close: Saves the current record and closes the editor window.
Cancel: Closes the window without saving any changes you've made to the record since the last time you saved. When you Save the record, the Cancel button changes to Close, indicating that you can safely close the window without losing any changes.
Close: Closes the window. This button only appears after you've saved changes with Save or before you've entered any data at all. Otherwise, the button is labeled Cancel.
Show on Map: If this sub location record has map coordinates, MainBoss attempts to open Google Maps to a map showing the sub location's geographic location. If the record doesn't have map coordinates, MainBoss checks the location record that contains the sub location, then the container of the container, and so on, until MainBoss either finds a record that has map coordinates or else reaches a record with no container.
If MainBoss finds no record with map coordinates, but does find a postal address record containing postal information, MainBoss passes the postal information to Google Maps.
In order to see the geographic position in Google Maps, you must have an active Internet connection and a suitable web browser.
For more on locations, see Locations. For more on viewing locations, see Viewing Locations. For more on editing postal addresses, see Editing Postal Addresses. For more on editors in general, see Using Editors.
