Application: Man Hours 2
This applies to check valves in primary fluid systems that improve operating
efficiency or prevent damage to system components. It applies only to check
valves not serviced in conjunction with their associated equipment.
Special Instructions:
1. Schedule maintenance with operating personnel.
2. Isolate check valve, secure and tag the valves.
3. Post out of service signs on the appropriate equipment.
4. Review manufacturer's instructions.
Items to Check & Initial Completion:
1.___ Remove the cover and clean the valve seat and disc.
2.___ Examine the hanger, disc, and seat for cracks or wear.
3.___ Check seals, packing, and gaskets for deterioration; replace if necessary.
4.___ Reassemble valve using a new cover gasket or seal.
5.___ Remove tags and test for leaks. Test under operating conditions if
possible.
6.___ Remove out of service signs.

1. Standard Tool Kit
Plus Pipe wrenches to 24"
Tubing cutters
Flaring tool
Small acetylene outfit
Packing tool kit and packing
3/4" socket set
Crescent wrenches to 14"
2. Cleaning equipment and materials. Consult the Material Safety Data Sheets
(MSDS) for hazardous ingredients and proper personal protective equipment
(PPE).
3. Packing, seals, and gaskets.
4. Lapping compound and lapping block.
