COOLPOND-A Cooling Water Pond - Annual

This applies to large ponds that are utilized as a condenser water
supply for the buildings cooling systems.  They may be natural formations or man
made concrete containments.  They will be used in place of cooling towers.  This
guide card does not apply to sources of water that may be utilized to supply the
fire protection systems for a building as this water is not re-circulated back to
the pond.


Special Instructions:

1.  Lowering of the water level in natural formations or complete draining of the
    water in concrete containments will be required to complete the following PM.
2.  Schedule outage with operating personnel and notify anyone effected by the
    drainage of the water.
3.  Where boats are required to access the piping and nozzles, life jackets must
    be worn.
4.  Secure source of water supply to pond and tag or secure source and post an
    employee to guard against accidental filling.


Items to Check & Initial Completion:

1.___ Wash down walls, piping and/or bottom of pond.
2.___ Clean suction pit, screens and/or strainers.
3.___ Check piping, supports, brackets, etc. for damage.
4.___ Check and clean nozzles.
5.___ Treat and paint metal surfaces as required.
6.___ Remove trash and debris.
7.___ Remove tags and refill pond.
8.___ Add an EPA approved biocide.


Tools and Materials:

1.  Standard Tool kit.
    Plus Pipe wrenches to 24"
         Tubing cutters
         Flaring tool
         Small acetylene outfit
         Packing tool kit and packing
         3/4" socket set
         Crescent wrenches to 14"
2.  Boots, waders.
3.  Boat and/or scaffolding, where required.
4.  Fire hose, garden hose, etc.
5.  Life jackets, if required.
6.  Rakes, brooms and brushes.
7.  Masonry patching material.
8.  EPA approved biocide.  Consult the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for
    hazardous ingredients and proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
