RECOVER - make collector file permanent.

Syntax:

reco [filename]

Description:

The RECOVER command makes the collector file "sy**" into a permanent file named "filename". If "filename" is not specified on the command line, RECOVER will prompt for it. The new permanent file will remain in your AFT under the altname "sy**" but this name will refer to the given permanent file.

Since "sy**" is almost never used in systems that have the UW Tools package, there is little point in using RECOVER. On stock GCOS-8 systems, having a permanent "sy**" has some advantages. Once RECOVER is issued, lines of data entered in build mode which have not been written to the current file are automatically sent to "sy**". Should the system crash, these lines may be recovered from the permanent file. Without RECOVER, the lines would be put in temporary storage and consequently lost in the event of a crash.

The use of RECOVER creates a file named "****" in the AFT. This is simply a work file.
