The UnDELete Command

Syntax:

          UnDELete

Examples:

          udel
          *undelete

Description:

UnDELete moves one or more messages from the Deleted drawer to the Saved drawer. This reverses the action of the Delete command.

If you specify a single reference or a message range, UnDELete retrieves the specified message(s) from the Deleted drawer. Otherwise, UnDELete retrieves the current Deleted message. If you are at end-of-drawer, MAIL8 gives you an error.

You cannot use UnDELete to get back Unread or Outbound messages that you have deleted -- it only works for deleted Saved messages.

By default, deleted messages are retained in the Deleted drawer for 24 hours. After this time, the space occupied by a deleted message may be re-used for other purposes. Once this space has been re-used, the message cannot be undeleted. Thus you are guaranteed a certain length of time when undeleting works; if you try undeleting after that time, it may or may not work.

You can change the length of time that a message is retained in the Deleted drawer may by using the Undelete_HouRs, Undelete_DAYs, or Undelete_WeeKs option. See "expl mail option undelete" for more information.
