The ReMail Command

Syntax:

ReMail [user user ...] [+All] [+DENied] [+REJected] [+MUTE]

Examples:

          remail
          rm joe
          5 rem +all
          *remail friend

Description:

ReMail sends a message that is already in your Outbound drawer to zero or more recipients.

If the format of the command is

          remail

MAIL8 tries to remail the message to users who have never been notified about the message. The only time this has an effect is if something prevented the message from being posted to all intended recipients when the message was created (for example, if the system went down in the middle of sending out the message).

If the format of the command is

          remail user user user ...

MAIL8 sends a copy of the message to the given user(s) as if they were receiving blind carbon copies of the message. In other words, they receive the message but their names are not noted in the text of the message. If the list of new recipients includes an old recipient, MAIL8 checks whether or not that person has received the message; if the person hasn't received the message, MAIL8 checks to make sure that the person still has an appropriate Unread notification and creates such a notification if there isn't one.

If the format of the command is

          remail +All

MAIL8 sends a new copy of the message to all the intended recipients, including those named in Cc: and Bcc: lines. This includes any recipient whom you deleted using

          Delete +Outbound userid

If any recipients already have an Unread notification for the message, ReMail does not give them a new one. Because of this, the recipients won't get two Unread notifications for the same message.

If the format of the command is

          remail +REJected

MAIL8 resends the message to any recipients whose mailboxes rejected the message the first time it was sent (for example, because their mailbox files didn't have enough space for the Unread message notification).

If the format of the command is

          remail +DENied

MAIL8 resends the message to any recipients who denied the message by using Delete +Unread to delete the message without reading it.

The message ReMail sends has all the characteristics attached to the Outbound message. For example, if you ReMail a Registered message, the new recipients receive a Registered message, in the same way that the old recipients did.

If you specify a single reference or a message range, ReMail sends the referenced message(s) to the specified recipients. Otherwise, ReMail sends the current Outbound message. If you are at end-of-drawer, MAIL8 gives you an error.

When you use ReMail to send a message to recipients who were not named in the original message, their names are not added to the names shown in the body of the message. However, if you use Summary +Outbound to examine the Outbound message, Summary shows the number of times you have remailed the message. MAIL8 tells the recipients of a remailed message that this is a remailing.

The +MUTE option sends the message without displaying any information messages. You will not see the usual "Message sent to user" message, nor will you see any advisory messages set up by recipients. MAIL8 still displays error messages. You may wish to use +MUTE to reduce the amount of output sent to your screen or to a command file. If you want to determine whether a +MUTE message was sent successfully, use Summary +Outbound.
