FPFIREHYDR-A Fire Protection Fire Hydrants (Dry Barrel/Wet Barrel) - Annual

Special Instructions:

1.  Dry barrel hydrants should be checked in the fall before the first frost.


Items to Check & Initial Completion:

1. ___ Remove any obstructions which hinder accessibility.
2. ___ Outlets must be at least 18 inches above ground or floor and the hydrant
       in plumb position.
3. ___ Make sure that dry barrel type hydrants are used in unheated areas (indoor
       or outdoor) where freezing is encountered.
4. ___ Check for leakage at hose outlet, etc.
5. ___ Examine condition of gaskets, packing gland and threads.
6. ___ Examine barrel for cracks.
7. ___ Remove outlet caps, check for ease of removal, replace all but one 2" cap.
8. ___ Dry barrel type - shut hydrant, check for drainage by back suction or by
       dropping weight on string into barrel to check for water.
9. ___ Dry barrel type - if water is present, unplug drain valve.  If water table
       is higher than drain hose, plug the hole.
10.___ Flush hydrant and check water flow.  Flush until water, is  clear.
11.___ Cap hydrant, open hydrant 2 turns.
12.___ Check for leaks.
13.___ Dry barrel type - repeat items 8 and 9 above.
14.___ If drain is manually plugged, pump water out of barrel.
15.___ Lubricate all threads.
16.___ Check to see that nozzle caps are hand-tight.

    Plus Pipe wrenches to 24"
         Tubing cutters
         Flaring tool
         Small acetylene outfit
         Packing tool kit and packing
         3/4" socket set
         Crescent wrenches to 14"
