SHRINK - reduce the size of permanent files.

Syntax:

shrink filename [Size=llinks]

Options:

Size=llinks
tells SHRINK not to examine the file content to determine how much of the file is actually being used. Instead, SHRINK ruthlessly truncates the file to the specified number of lliinks.

Description:

SHRINK can reduce a permanent file to its proper size, based on the number of llinks that the file is actually using. The SHRINK command recognizes the same file formats as the LEN command. If SHRINK encounters an unrecognizable format in a file, it leaves the file at its present size.

You must have write permission on the file, and the file must not be busy elsewhere, even for Query access.

Notes:

SHRINK runs a task job to shrink the file. It displays a snumb when it begins its work and displays a termination message when it's finished.
